Meet The Team

Lock Johnson
Founder/Owner/Biologist
Lock Johnson, owner of Beholder Aquatics, has been surrounded by koi ponds and aquatic life since childhood. The son of Dr. Erik L. Johnson Sr., DVM—better known as “the Koivet”—Lock grew up keeping fish, plants, and all kinds of animals, fueling a lifelong passion for wildlife and biology. In 2024, he turned that passion into a career by founding Beholder Aquatics, a company devoted exclusively to designing, building, maintaining, and restoring water features.
Lock’s path to pond building wasn’t linear. After working in welding and animal medicine, and while completing his degree in Biology at Kennesaw State University, he realized that true fulfillment would only come from a career that combined artistry, ecology, and hands-on craftsmanship. That clarity drew him back to his roots—water, life, and ecosystems—where Beholder Aquatics became the perfect expression of his values.
Today, Beholder Aquatics creates koi ponds, pondless waterfalls, and decorative fountainscapes across North Georgia, focusing entirely on water features. Lock also shares his expertise through speaking engagements on fish health, ecology, and pond design, and his company actively supports local organizations such as Think Pink Cherokee, the Blue Ridge Trout Fest, and the Atlanta Area Aquarium Association.
When he’s not building ponds, Lock enjoys gardening, cultivating tropical plants, fishing, lifting weights, and diving into strategy games like Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons. His guiding belief is simple: every pond deserves to be treated as if it belonged to a close family member—built and cared for with honesty, transparency, and genuine commitment.

Yin Johnson
Director of Sales & Marketing/The Other Half
Yin Johnson, the other half of Beholder Aquatics, has always had a keen interest in nature and the wildlife in it since she was young. Her inspiration came from the beloved late Steve Irwin "The Crocodile Hunter." Yin grew up wrangling critters in the woods of Blue Ridge so it's no surprise that she's found a partner in Lock.
In late 2023, Yin founded Yin & Yang Designs, a web design agency, which she still runs today. With an expansive background from design to insurance, Yin officially joined the Beholder Aquatics team early 2025.
Yin is passionate about connecting clients with beautiful, sustainable aquatic solutions. With a keen eye for design and customer engagement, Yin drives growth by showcasing the artistry and expertise behind Beholder Aquatics’ koi ponds and water features. Focused on building strong relationships and delivering exceptional service, Yin ensures every client experiences the perfect balance of beauty and functionality in their aquatic environment.
When Yin is not busy networking and engaging with her community, she enjoys caring for her indoor plants, playing video games, and spending time playing Magic: The Gathering with Lock. Yin is a fire-cracker, always ready for the next adventure.
